The Bay State Banner reports that Beacon Communities, the company that manages Georgetowne Homes in Hyde Park, recently moved to evict more than 100 residents in a single month. Despite the company’s claim that the evictions were a last resort, there is significant pandemic-related funding available that owners of income-restricted units like the Georgetowne Homes can use to cover the costs of tenants’ missed payments.
In response to the spate of evictions, a coalition of legal services organizations including Greater Boston Legal Services, Harvard Legal Aid Bureau and the Legal Services Center of Harvard Law School wrote a joint letter to Beacon Communities, urging the company to dismiss the eviction cases against its tenants and instead rely on federal and state funds available for housing relief.
