Rebecca Greening

Rebecca Greening, clinical instructor in LSC’s Family Justice Clinic, commented in a recent Boston Globe article on the astounding number — 48 percent in 2022 —of Department of Children and Family (DCF) decisions that are overturned when people challenge them in fair hearings: “Unbelievable. Shocking statistics,” said Rebecca. Given the reversal rate, Rebecca commented that “you would think a lot of people would request hearings,” but also underscored that parents accused of neglect are often poor and don’t have access to legal help: one of the core purposes of LSC’s recently reconfigured Family Justice Clinic. The article highlighted a recent judicial ruling that found that DCF had violated a mother’s constitutional rights when it denied her request for a hearing to challenge the agency’s neglect allegations.
