In this Harvard Law School Clinic in a Minute video, Nathan Lowry ‘24 and David Paul ‘24, students in LSC’s Veteran’s Law and Disabilities Benefits Clinic, discuss their work representing Mr. Larry Vilord, who had been denied full survivor benefits by the Veterans Administration (VA) due to the length of his marriage. His marriage would have been much longer, but for his state’s unconstitutional ban on same-sex marriage. In part because of the work Nathan and David, as well as other students in previous years, did on this case, the VA changed its policies last fall to provide the same survivor benefits to same-sex marriage couples as those in heterosexual marriages.
